As of 17 November 2015, the Ministry of Health in Brazil has reported an unusual increase in cases of microcephaly in north-eastern Brazil. Investigations, including clinical, laboratory and ultrasound analysis of newborns and their mothers is ongoing. A public health emergency of national significance has been declared.
